The classic American trilobite! Formerly known as 'Phacops', this iconic trilobite is the most common trilobite found throughout New York State. Perfect, prone examples are a little more uncommon. Prepared slowly under microscope with soft air abrasion, the macro photos show the quality of our preparation.
"camo" bugs. Some select localities of the Wanakah shale produce Eldredgeops, Greenops and Proetids with incredibly well-preserved shell. These specimens often have 'camo spots' preserved within the shell structure (see paper published by Martin et al on this phenomenon). It was suggested in the paper that these structures may have helped break up the image of the trilobite from sharp-eyed predators like fish and cephalopods.
