Gaurocrinus was a crinoid that lived during the Paleozoic era. With well-defined plates and colorful preservation, they are a favourite among echinoderm collectors. This species is well-documented from the Vaureal formation, a Late Ordovician deposit on Anticosti island in Quebec, Canada. New UNESCO laws have made coastal collecting illegal and so it’s rare to have specimens hit the open market from this remote (and shockingly beautiful) locality except from older collections. This plate was among some unprepared material I acquired and only recently prepared.
